The ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ is observed every year by the United Nations on 25 November to eradicate the growing incidents of violence, exploitation and abuse against girls and women. On 25 November 1960, three sisters, Patria Mercedes Mirabel, Maria Argentina Minerva Mirabel and Maria Argentina Minerva Mirabel, who opposed the dictatorship of Dominican ruler Trujillo.
